About JHMES

An editor who has sat on your side of the page.

I’m Dr. Jennifer Hill — a Routledge author, journal editor, and academic editor who helps transpersonal, spiritual, religious, and grief scholars get their work into print, with rigor and real care.

Dr. Jennifer Hill, academic editor

Why I do this work

I’ve spent more than fifteen years helping scholars say what they mean — clearly, correctly, and in their own voice. Along the way I learned that the hardest part of academic writing is rarely the grammar. It’s the doubt, the overwhelm, and the long, lonely stretch between a finished draft and a published work.

That’s why I edit the way I do. I’m certified in Motivational Interviewing, and I bring that same client-centered, compassionate stance to manuscripts: I meet writers where they are, affirm what’s working, and help them move forward without shame or pressure.

I’m also living the process I coach. My own scholarly book is under contract with Routledge, and my research on synchronicity in grief appeared in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology. I edit from inside the publishing world — not above it.

Rigor and compassion, together

Precision without coldnessMeticulous APA 7 and clear prose — delivered with notes that teach, not just correct.
Your voice, protectedI edit so the work sounds more like you, not less.
The whole writerI understand the emotional weight of a dissertation or book, and I support the person carrying it.
Field fluencyI know the literature, journals, and conventions of transpersonal, spiritual, religious, and grief scholarship.

Who I work with

Doctoral students polishing a dissertation, early-career scholars turning research into publications, and authors shaping books and proposals — most often in psychology, transpersonal and spiritual studies, religion, and grief. If your work lives at the meeting point of rigorous scholarship and meaning, you’re in the right place.
