Transpersonal Grief

Special Issue Editor: Jennifer Hill, PhD

You are warmly invited to submit a paper for inclusion in a special issue of the International Journal of Transpersonal Studies (IJTS) on the theme of Transpersonal Grief. Submissions are due by June 30, 2026.

Transpersonal grief is an emerging field exploring the spiritual, transcendent, and meaning-making dimensions of bereavement. Rooted in the broader tradition of transpersonal psychology—which integrates spirituality, consciousness studies, and transformative human experience—this special issue seeks to expand the scholarly conversation around grief in ways that move beyond ego-based or Eurocentric frameworks.

Where conventional grief models often focus on detachment, transpersonal grief honors experiences such as synchronicity, after-death communication, altered states of consciousness, continuing bonds, and culturally diverse mourning rituals. Contributors are encouraged to explore the liminal, symbolic, and sacred dimensions of loss—whether through clinical, theoretical, or empirical lenses.

🌿 We welcome submissions in the following areas:

  • Clinical modalities for transpersonal grief therapy

  • Continuing bonds and after-death communication

  • Spiritual and altered states during mourning

  • Meaning reconstruction and synchronicity

  • Cross-cultural and ancestral grief traditions

  • Ethical considerations in transpersonal grief work

  • Training and supervision for transpersonal grief practitioners

  • Qualitative or quantitative studies exploring transpersonal grief experiences

This issue is an opportunity to define a growing field and provide evidence-based insights for clinicians, scholars, and grief workers attuned to the full spectrum of human experience in bereavement.

🗓 Submission Deadline: June 30, 2026

Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with APA 7th edition guidelines and submitted as Microsoft Word documents. Include an abstract (up to 120 words), five to twelve keywords, author bios (up to 150 words), and a list of three to five suggested peer reviewers.
